I visited postcastally.com - from many interesting podcasts under the Health topic. The topics listed are diverse and there is something for everyone. I have listened to NPR online for years and enjoyed the ability to listen to previous shows. I listened to the PubMed the Quick Way I understood the instructions as I use PubMed but it would have been nice to have an instruction page to download to follow the audio instructions. I searched 'library' when using Odeo and found a lot of material. I look forward to reviewing Odeo in the future.
Viewing library videos on YouTube by different sort options produced different videos; I decided to use the "Relevance" option. I found comic and education videos that were interesting. I noticed several libraries had videos posted on YouTube. A library could use YouTube or their own library site to display specific special programs or speakers, instructional videos or videos announcing programs within their library. While I could see using YouTube to connect with the younger users in a library, some videos may attract other library users.

Wee 8 - Mashups and API
I viewed mashups at both sites listed and found several interesting sites but most I found I would not use. One I will use in the future will be BillShrink for comparison of cellular phone services, maybe find one with a lower bill. Another one was FlickrStorm, after yesterday with 'interesting' weather in Arkansas viewing still pictures was nice (tornadoes did not get too close). Also, I found I did not work for one of the best 25 companies to work for.
I think I would add to Rollyo the ability to list search results in date order so I could read the more current items first. Searching the word 'privacy' produced many results, some of which I did not find interesting. Searching by a specific word does not necessarily produce the results desired. Some of the items did not deal with libraries or librarianship but personal privacy issues.

Week 4 Social bookmarking
I had done this lesson earlier except for this blog; week 5 started and I forgot to post this blog. Now I have read the articles and reviewed my earlier work on del.icio.us so I can write my review. As part of my review, I found new links to bookmark in my del.icio.us account.
I like this tool, find it helpful instead of bookmarking to a specific computer and will share my knowledge about social bookmarking with others. I can see social bookmarking as both an easy way to create bookmarks as well a tool for research assistance. I like the casual unstructured tags that are used to describe the web sites selected. While searching del.icio.us I lost track of time, especially as I am attempting to find the correct tag to use when looking for new web sites. I like sharing web sites as well as the ability to mark ‘my personal’ web sites as private. Over the summer I will show my 12 and 15 year old nephews how to use del.icio.us to get them on the started on the right road. Of course they might already know about this web site and show me a few things.
The funny thing is I had printed the del.icio.us help sheet on August 2, 2006 to remind myself to investigate the web site. I had not investigated the web site, thank you for getting me in the program. I want to thank MLA for providing this course.

Week 6 - Online Photo Sharing
I can see my library perhaps using this tool as a historical or archival site. I enjoyed viewing the LOC flickr web site and exploring the different pictures. I am not sure if the copyright issues are as clear as I would like on downloading and sharing some of the pictures.
I will use it personally with family in the future as I believe this is easier than email the pictures. I added an image to the map, when I viewed the map from another email address the tap line added to the map did not show. I know I added three images to the group but only viewed one. Weird happenings, more practice is needed.

Car issues
First on my way home I got a flat in my passenger rear tire. Wrecker came and changed tire and then I had to purchase new tire. Next a few days later in the same location my motor quit running as I was driving down the road - just stopped. That is an awful silence sound. Was able to pull off the road and re-start the car after a few minutes. Car dealer informed me that the electronic switch in the steering column was going out and needed to be replaced. This switch is basically an on/off switch. After having a car for 12 years you can expect some issues.

Week 5 Review
Yes, I think Web Office Tools are the future - today or tomorrow no but yes in the future. They will grow as older individuals are encouraged to work with them in their work environment and the younger individuals use them instead of the more traditional applications. I liked the availability of the tools on the web - not my desktop. I found these applications easy to adapt to as the were similar to what I use in the office every day.
I am not concerned about the security of these products as I can limit the users. I think Zoho will need to allow larger image sizes in their presentation files. This I could see in a library environment.

Week 3 Review - Social Networking
Social networking via Facebook or My Space could be used as an alternative method of communication instead of email. When an individual joins MLA, the new member could be asked how they want to be notified of MLA elections, classes, meeting/committee reports, etc… Personally I would select a RSS feed to my reader or email not Facebook or My Space.
No, my library would not use Facebook or My Space. Yes, there is a privacy concern any time one uses the Internet. This discussion is ongoing, once a picture, or thought is added to your Facebook or My Space web site or any web site it is on the Internet for all time – no way to delete. I did like the Denver Public Library site, a well design web page which pulls the young viewers. Libraries need to use social networking and other technology to attract the younger audience into the libraries. Librarians need to keep up and find how to use the technology to find new users and keep their audience – not use every technology as some will not work as well as others.
I am not sure if I would have joined Facebook or My Space without this class. I think I need more expose to these social networking sites so I will be more comfortable using them and perhaps find ways to use them.
